There’s been a surprising announcement at Hamilton City Hall.
City Manager Chris Murray is leaving to take that same position in Toronto, where he notes that he’ll face many of the same issues, things like housing and mobility.
He said that Hamilton is “on a good groove and we’re moving in a good direction” and he has no doubt that trend will continue.
Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger said that “clearly some of the reasons why Toronto is interested” in Murray is because of Hamilton’s success.
General Manager of Finance Mike Zegarac will serve as Hamilton’s interim city manager when Murray officially takes over as Toronto’s city manager in mid-August.
Eisenberger credits Murray with guiding Hamilton through many issues, including the Stelco restructuring, the Pan Am Games, LRT and its digital strategy.
“We’ve been able to do some great things together, and it’s sad to see it come to an end, but we have a good, solid management team that can keep us going forward,” he said.
