Elgin OPP are investigating a crash on Highway 401 Friday that left one person dead and two others in hospital.
The crash happened in the eastbound lanes between Iona Road and Union Road at roughly 11 a.m.

At roughly 2 p.m., police issued an update announcing that a total of five vehicles had been involved in the collision: two tractor-trailers, one five-tonne commercial truck, and two passenger vehicles.
According to police, the vehicles were all heading eastbound and were merging into a single lane due to construction.
Police say one person in a passenger vehicle died as a result of the crash. Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, one by air ambulance and another by land ambulance — at last check, both were listed in stable condition.
The eastbound lanes of the 401 between Iona Road and Union Road are closed to traffic while police investigate. Police expect a “prolonged closure leading into the evening hours.”
