Live updates: Coronavirus in Canada

Patty Hajdu, Canada's Minister of Health, and Dr. Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, were both asked on Wednesday to offer their professional assessments of what a "best case" and a "worst-case" scenario looks like for Canada as it continue to grapple with the outbreak of COVId-19.

The novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization after it spread worldwide — with major hotspots in the United States, China, Iran and Italy.

Countries around the world are imposing lockdowns and curfews and asking people to self-isolate or practise social distancing to try to control the spread of the virus.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that companies across the country are now producing medical supplies, including hundreds of ventilators, as part of Canada’s battle to increase desperately needed equipment in the fight against COVID-19.

“We are seeing the best of what it means to be Canadian,” Trudeau told reporters.
