Beginning in 1985, the Hamilton Professional Fire Fighters Association began fundraising for the first hyperbaric chamber in the region, raising $1 million in the process for the bed, linens, staffing and training. That first bed came to fruition in the early 1990’s thanks to the support of the HPFFA and has now grown to 3 beds servicing more than just burns for patients.

HPFFA President, Rob D’Amico, shared, “Local 288 is proud to provide continued support for the Hamilton Health Sciences Burn Unit, the patients in need and the staff who work so hard to provide care to our community. We couldn’t do this without the hard work of our HPFFA members and partnerships with friends in the community like the Hamilton Police Association”.

The HPFFA has worked on many community initiatives with the Police Association over the years, most recently including the Sirens for Life blood donor drive for Canadian Blood Services.
