Wanted: Local business owners who are striving to thrive

FirstOntario Credit Union and its community partners have teamed up once again for the seventh annual 1Awards competition. The awards continue to recognize local entrepreneurs and help them to elevate their business. With such a large pool of talent in Hamilton and the surrounding areas, the competition gets tougher every year.
The panel of judges is looking for established local business owners who have the insight and passion to succeed and who are looking for support to make that happen. As a dedicated community partner, FirstOntario is committed to helping businesses of all sizes thrive- not just survive.
Winners will share $150,000 in cash and in-kind services to help them execute their award-winning plans. Prizes are tailored specifically to their needs to allow for future growth and development. Past winners include The Other Bird restaurant group, Relay Coffee Roasters, Black Bird Studios and the Mustard Seed Co-op. In six years, FirstOntario Credit Union and 1Awards partners have invested more than $800,000 dollars into our business communities. Partners include The Hamilton Spectator, Agro Zaffiro LLP, KPMG, Weever Apps, Mohawk College, 900 CHML, M is For Money and PLAY.
To be eligible for the 1Awards, small businesses must have 50 or less employees and have been in business for at least 24 months. These businesses must demonstrate “measureable growth”, such as workforce expansion, innovation and economic impact in their local communities. Submissions are now being accepted.
Eligible candidates must apply before Saturday, March 31, 2018.
Candidates can enter by filling out an application online at http://www.1Awards.ca or by visiting FirstOntario locations in Hamilton, Burlington and Oakville.
